With Pick Up The Phone taking over radio waves across the country, the Republik is excited to announce Dragonettes show March 19. Tickets go on sale February 12 at 10am, but fans will be able to purchase tickets in the presale beginning Wednesday morning.
The band is touring in support of their album Fixin to Thrill, which was released last fall. The new album is a mix of pop, rock, punk, electro and even a bit of country. Lead singer, Martina Sorbara attributes this to the diverse musical backgrounds of herself, bassist Dan Kurtz, who is also Sorbaras husband, and drummer Joel Stouffer.
I think like every band, when youre starting out, you can play to an audience that is not emotionally committed to you. Fixin to Thrill is about, like, I just want to play my songs and I want you to dance and I want you to have fun. Lets just to this. This attitude saw the album garner initial success online, and that is now translating into huge airplay.
The Toronto natives first gig was support for Duran Duran, and they have since gone on to support other major UK acts including New Order, Basement Jaxx and the Sugababes, as well as headlining a series of gigs in the UK and Canada.
