True pop culture icons. Unquestioned household name recognition. Purveyors of some of the finest hard rock and heavy metal on the planet. This is MOTORHEAD, and they are back on the road in support of their forthcoming new album ‘Motorizer’.

MOTORHEAD – Lemmy, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell – was formed in 1975 by bassist, singer & songwriter Lemmy, and has the reputation as one of Britain’s foremost rock bands, thanks to the unrelenting sound captured on albums like Overkill, Bomber, Ace Of Spades and No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith

‘Motorizer’ is MOTORHEAD’s 24th album and gives listeners the feeling that they have not yet reached the peak of their musical output. Like the band themselves have stated: ‘A kick ass motherf****g record – definitely one of the wider ranged Motorhead records ever released’. The album was produced by longtime ally Cameron Webb and the recording of Mikkey Dee’s drums took place at Foo Fighter Dave Grohl’s 606 studios in Los Angeles. The rest of the album was recorded at world famous Sage and Sound studios in Hollywood.

Joining MOTORHEAD on this Canadian onslaught will be The Reverend Horton Heat (Edmonton & Calgary), and Nashville Pussy. The Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, is the biggest, baddest, grittiest, greasiest, greatest rocker that ever piled his hair up and pounded the drinks down. It’s been an almost 20-year journey for Heath, whose country-flavored punkabilly and onstage antics have brought him and his band a strikingly diverse fan base and a devoted cult following, not to mention the respect of fellow musicians worldwide. ‘Revival’, the band’s first release for Yep Roc Records, is a return to Heath’s roots – musical and geographical.
Nashville Pussy are undisputed legends in the game of tough-as-leather, knock-em-down, hard-living rock ‘n’ roll. Their outlaw sound has seen them through the last decade, and they’re still blowing the doors off every club they play. Their latest album, From Hell To Texas, was released earlier this year.

With sold out shows across Western Canada in April, The Gaslight Anthem are making a return to continue the success of the ‘59 Sound.

The Gaslight Anthem have been a band for three-and-a-half years now and in that short amount of time they’ve become one of rock music’s most celebrated acts, spurring a cultish fan base with their original and heartfelt soul-inflected punk. The band recently completed a highly successful headlining tour with sold out shows across North America, including Webster Hall in New York, the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC, the Trocadero in Philadelphia, the Bottom Lounge in Chicago and two nights at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Their dynamic live show has gained further attention following standout performances at this year’s Coachella, Sasquatch and Harvest of Hope festivals. Gaslight is now set to perform at Lollapalooza and All Points West this summer and recently graced the cover of Alternative Press magazine. Since the release of THE ‘59 SOUND in August of last year, the band has received accolades from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, SPIN and Rolling Stone, not to mention critical acclaim overseas from publications such as NME, Kerrang!, Exclaim!, VISIONS, Rock Sound, Big Cheese and Q Magazine.

Currently on tour in the UK and Europe, where they will be direct support for Social Distortion for three shows in Germany and open for Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band at Hyde Park in London on June 28th, the band will also be performing at a variety of festivals including Fuji Rock in Japan, Glastonbury, and the Reading and Leeds Festivals. The band’s Fall tour being announced today marks the band’s last headline run before they head into the studio later this year to record their follow-up to THE ‘59 SOUND.

In the space of two short years, the UK-based DragonForce have risen steadily, advancing up the ranks of the hard rock elite. They’ve grown from relative unknowns in the United States to an impossible-to-ignore phenomenom that’s spread across message boards and schoolyards, thanks to their tuneful, epic and guitar-driven anthems, their high-level inclusion on Guitar Hero 3:Legends of Rock and a near-constant touring schedule. The single “Through the Fire and Flames” has been RIAA-certified Gold and 2006’s Inhuman Rampage, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker’s Chart, has sold over 300,000 copies in its wake.

Over those two fateful years following the album’s release, the band toured America for the first time in their career and were embraced with open arms. The first tour was sold out before Inhuman Rampage even hit record store shelves and the marathon cycle continued for well over a year, as they dominated the main stage of 2006’s Ozzfest, followed that up with a sold-out headline run and a plum support slot opening for new labelmates, Killswitch Engage, before heading home to work on Ultra Beatdown, an excellent effort that rivals its predecessor in every facet.

DragonForce are much more than a band; they’re almost like a cult that has commanded a legion of diehard fans that range from guitar nerds, video game aficionados and young, impressionable kids who are just discovering music as they attempt to jam out to Dragonforce while playing Guitar Hero.

That type of passion for music is what drives DragonForce in the middle of all the Guitar Hero hype. The band remains grounded and is staying the course, infusing Ultra Beatdown with the same bombastic guitarwork and battlecry lyrics. Li is adamant that the band isn’t going to cater to anyone but themselves and their truest fans, saying, “People were already listening to us before anyone found Inhuman Rampage. Our first US tour sold out before the album came out. People liked us before Guitar Hero. Our goal is to take all the experience we’ve accumulated and make our live show ever better.”

Setting the alternative nation abuzz with excitement and anticipation, Travis Barker, Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus, better known as blink-182, one of the world’s greatest punk rock bands, earlier this year officially announced they are back together. This summer they will head out across North America on a monster tour, taking along a ton of friends who also happen to be in great bands.

With more than 20 million albums sold worldwide, blink-182 is widely considered one of the best punk rock bands of all time. Formed in the San Diego suburbs in 1993, the band found international fame, multi-platinum albums and massive radio airplay success before breaking up in 2004. Although each member went on to their own successful projects, personal events and natural chemistry brought them back together. In what each of the band members describe as nothing short of fate, they have newfound inspiration and creativity together, and are working to create the summer’s best rock show. Known for connecting with their fans, blink-182 is out to prove that after five years apart, they can still deliver a massive show and this will be the highlight of the summer touring season.

This summer, blink-182 is vowing to give fans the best value for their dollar. The band has put together the most ambitious stage show of their career, working with Martin Phillips (stage designer for Daft Punk, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, etc), to create the most ridiculous display of lights and images you can imagine. The band will also provide MySpace fans with exclusive videos and tour diaries throughout the summer on their official MySpace Music profile at www.myspace.com/blink182, thus allowing fans to connect and share in their experiences. Fans can also purchase tickets for the tour through MySpace’s new ticket portal at myspace.com/concerttickets.

In the late 1970s the first raw, sloppy, speeding guitar chords began to blare from the garages and backrooms of a Southern California suburb called Orange County. They echoed a sound forged in the preceding years in the seminal punk undergrounds of New York City and London.

In 1979, 17-year old Mike Ness formed Social Distortion. The band’s world centered around Mike’s one-bedroom pad, dubbed “the black hole” (later immortalized by the The Adolescents with the song “Kids Of The Black Hole”), in a nondescript Fullerton, CA apartment complex.

It has been 30 years and Social Distortion have continually toured and released albums that have influenced different generations over and over. The band’s most influential release was the 1992 album Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell which became their most popular album to date, producing a minor radio hit in “Bad Luck” and keeping with their blend of punk, blues, country, and rockabilly.

It is hard to find a band that has been this legendary and current for as long as them. Whether it is Mike Ness’ solo work or any of the previous Social Distortion albums, the band has always been relevant at all times.

New York metal veterans DREAM THEATER will take their PROGRESSIVE NATION tour back on the road for its second incarnation this year!

In addition to a headlining set by DREAM THEATER, this year’s package will feature the outstanding musicianship of ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA as well as two incredibly talented imports from Sweden: PAIN OF SALVATION and BEARDFISH.

PROGRESSIVE NATION was created by DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy and its successful inaugural run in 2008 also featured OPETH, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME and THREE.

Portnoy once again hand-picked all of the bands for the 2009 bill based on their diversity and musicality. He comments: ‘This year’s lineup is so exciting for me. Every band is bringing something very unique to the package to create an incredibly well rounded musical experience. I am just as excited to be watching all the bands from the side of the stage as I am to be performing with mine in the center of it!’

Fresh on the heels of his Grammy win, Dweezil Zappa is pleased to announce his plans to join forces with Dream Theater as part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour: ‘It’s no secret that I started ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA with the intention to diversify and expand the audience for my father’s music. I figured I’d probably have to do it one concert at a time. Playing with DREAM THEATER on the PROGRESSIVE NATION tour is a great way to accomplish that goal. Music fans who are seeking something to challenge their senses should definitely consider attending this great bill’

Portnoy adds, ‘It is an absolute honor for me to have ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA on board. Frank Zappa is one of my all-time biggest heroes and his music practically invented the term ‘progressive’. Dweezil is doing an amazing job carrying on the tradition of his father’s daring spirit and like his dad, has surrounded himself with a band of jaw-dropping, incredible musicians’

PROGRESSIVE NATION will be the first North American tour for DREAM THEATER in support of their newest Roadrunner Records release which is slated for a June 2009 release.

Heaven & Hell, the quartet of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice, will bring their wicked world tour to North America for a select number of shows this August. The band will start their summer headlining music festivals across Europe before bringing their macabre stage show of metal classics to North America starting on August 7 in Vancouver.

On April 28, Heaven & Hell released their first album in 17 years THE DEVIL YOU KNOW and the highly anticipated set did not disappoint. Revolver Magazine declared it an album of ageless metal anthems and The Associated Press praised its bone-crunching riffs and power chords that can loosen the phlegm in your chest. The band plans to mix in several tracks from THE DEVIL YOU KNOW into their set of Dio-era Black Sabbath classics.

Heaven & Hell began writing for THE DEVIL YOU KNOW last year, first in England at Iommis home studio and later in Los Angeles at Dios studio. The band had gotten too good to just walk away, Dio says. We wanted to show people that we were still capable of giving them new music that measured up to what wed done in the past. With that goal in mind, the band hit the Rockfield Studios in Wales last winter and the result is the 10-song epic THE DEVIL YOU KNOW.

Coheed And Cambria bring their unique blend of prog and metal as the supporting act on the tour. The band just released their Neverender box set. The 4-CD/5-DVD collection chronicles a series of 2008 shows where the band performed all four of their albums in the same city on consecutive nights.

The amazing phenomenon known as Kings of Leon return to the road this summer, after an intense start to 2009, filled with epic sold-out performances across the US, chart-topping singles and legend-making appearances. In his review of the bands New York City performance in late January, Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote, The music swelled to fill the arena, from the ominous stomp that opened the set, Crawl to the lean defiance of Knocked Up and, suitable for the occasion, the triumphal Manhattan, which promises to show this town how to kiss these stars.

Nominated for three Grammy Awards (Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals), Kings Of Leon have seen their latest release Only By The Night (RCA) take them to new levels of success in North America. The first two singles, Sex On Fire and Use Some-body, have commanded the top of the Billboard Modern Rock charts, while Use Somebody is quickly gaining ground with other formats and climbing the Billboard Top 100. The video has been named Buzz-worthy by MTV and has had over six million views on YouTube to date.

Only By The Night was released on September 23, 2008 and debuted in the top five on the Billboard top 200 and #1 at the iTunes store. The band has since performed on Saturday Night Live and Late Night with David Letterman. The band appeared on the cover of Spin magazine’s October issue, the cover of Q magazine’s December issue in the UK, in which they received “Record of the Year” honors, and recently appeared on the hallowed cover of Rolling Stone.

2009 JUNO award winner for Songwriter of The Year, City and Colour (Dallas Green), returns to Calgary on May 20th, 2009, after a sold-out performance a few short months ago.

Green, who until a couple of years ago was better known as the dulcet voice of Alexisonfire, released his debut album Sometimes in 2005. A culmination of music that he had been writing for over a decade, the album achieved Platinum certification in 2006, surpassing any expectations he had. Green gave a heart-felt performance at the 2006 MuchMusic Video Awards, where City and Colour won the Peoples Choice Favourite Canadian Artist award. In 2007, Green performed live on the JUNOS, taking home the award for Alternative Album of The Year.

2008 was another incredibly busy and successful year for City and Colour. Sophomore album ‘Bring Me Your Love’ was one of the Top 10 Best albums, and Top sellers of iTunes 2008 Best Canadian Music list. Following a very successful U.S. run supporting Tegan and Sara in the Fall, Green embarked on his first City and Colour full-band headlining tour in the U.S. The entire tour was remarkably sold-out in advance.

Green once again brings his full-band including Scott Remila and Dylan Green (no relation) to Calgary. Don’t miss City and Colour at The Jubilee Auditorium for their only appearance in Alberta on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

The Montreal natives, The Dears have not gone away and come back, but have been transformed: by experience, by necessity, by life and its manifold curveballs. And with their newest album release, MISSILES, they have emerged as elder statesmen of the Canadian indie rock renaissance. They have been to awards shows and have been nominated for prizes, they have shared the stage with musical heroes, and they have sold out shows around the world. They have been recognized, mythologized, and eulogized. They have returned home to Montreal triumphant, and they have suffered defeat. But with defeat as their muse, they have grown and matured. And they have decided to stay.

Building on the success of their current CD, Black Butterfly, which is already certified gold in Canada, Buckcherry have announced initial details of the Canadian leg of their highly successful North American tour beginning on May 2nd in Vancouver. Dates include shows with special guests Papa Roach, and two surprise acts, offering fans 4 bands for under $50. Both Buckcherry and Papa Roach will also be stopping by Toronto during Canadian Music Week for their show at the Sound Academy March 14. (tickets already on sale)

Dubbed the “Next Great American Rock Band”, Buckcherry has evolved from playing in front of 200 people to sold-out crowds of tens of thousands in just two years. Buckcherry will be touring in support of their latest album, Black Butterfly, which was recently named iTunes Rock Album of the Year. The album produced iTunes choices for the #2 Rock Song of the Year, “Too Drunk” as well as critically acclaimed songs such as “A Child Called It” and “Dont Go Away”. The album debuted at #6 on Billboards Canadian Top 200. Black Butterfly follows the platinum success of 15, and hit songs like “Lit Up”, “Everything”, “Crazy Bitch” and the mainstream crossover smash “Sorry”. Black Butterfly was also recently ranked #1 on pop culture icon and mystery writer Stephen King’s Top 10 albums of 2008 for Entertainment Weekly magazine, stating, “Black Butterfly was the best hard-rock album I heard this year.”

Says Buckcherry front man Josh Todd, “We know how bad it is out there for some people right now and we want to make it easy and affordable for fans to go out, blow off some steam and have a great night of rock.”

Multi-platinum, Grammy Nominated alternative rock force Papa Roach have a string of multi-platform hits includ-ing “Last Resort”, “Forever”, “Getting Away With Murder”, “Scars” and “To Be Loved”. Their upcoming album Metamorphosis, dubbed the bands album of the decade, will be released on March 24. Tracks like the internet phenomenon “Hollywood Whore” and the newly released “Lifeline” add to the excitement of their live performance which has been described by Hit Parader as “Papa Roach’s live energy is like a pack of wild horses- unbridled and uncontainable.”

As the Plain White T’s learned over the last two years, there’s something unreal about success. One minute you’re sweating your ass off on stage in some dive. The next, your song is #1 and your CD has sold more than a million albums worldwide. Yet staying real is precisely what the Plain White T’s are all about, so on their new Hollywood/Fearless CD, Big Bad World, they passed on the digital bells or whistles. Instead, producer Johnny K pressed the ‘record’ button and the band simply played its heart out.

The Chicago based band, together for a decade, is still on a road of self-discovery. Formed during Tom’s (Lead vocals) teen years when he saw his life laid out before him at Chicago’s famed Metro club, the band built a steady following over the years and miles. They were invited to the Warped Tour (three times), opened for bands like Jimmy Eat World, and released two indie CDs their 2002 debut, Stop and 2005’s All That We Needed.

The band signed with Hollywood Records, releasing Every Second Counts in 2006 and putting “Hey There Delilah” out as a single. The track hit #1 on Billboard and iTunes (becoming one of very few songs ever to log more than 3 million downloads), propelled the CD into a worldwide hit, and earned the band two Grammy nods, Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

“I remember the first time we got a glimpse of what was happening,” Tom recalls. “We were in Milwaukee for a summer festival, we walked onstage and there were at least 20,000 people there to see us. We did those kinds of shows all summer. There were screaming girls pounding on the car windows. It was incredible” The band went on to conquer Europe, where “Hey There Delilah” also became a #1 hit in several countries.

“It’s easier now in a way,” says Tom, reflecting on the group’s success. “When you start a band and take it seriously, you basically give up a normal life. You barely see family and friends. The success makes the trade off worth it.”

Still, the Plain White T’s remain happily unsatisfied. “We’ve grown up, and learned more and more with every record about the band that we are and the band we want to be,” adds Tom. “When we record now, we’re listening more for character than perfection.”

The record, which included the singles Banquet and Helicopter raced up the charts in 17 countries around the world, was declared Album of the Year by NME Magazine and went on to sell one million copies worldwide. After ten years together the momentum only continues to build and The Weakerthans launch this tour on the heels of their highly successful fourth album Reunion Tour. The 2007 Anti release has garnered critical accolades and enjoyed a fruitful year of awards from the XM Satellitte Radio Award, the WCMAs as well as the SOCAN Echo prize for song writing. Reunion Tour also made the heralded short list for the 2008 Polaris Prize. With these awards, and their history of craft and dedication The Weakerthans have affirmed their place in the pantheon of Canadian rock bands and songwriters. Their songs and reputation as a band have brought them from the margins to stand with their peers in the Canadian music industry.

Featuring Torontos Constantines the tour will seek to build on the work the two bands have done on the road together. This extensive tour will take them from St Johns Newfoundland across the entire country to Victoria BC then North to end in the city of Whitehorse, Yukon. Over the course of the tour the bands will be performing almost 30 concerts in 21 different cities. Expanding on the highly successful Inaugural Rolling Tundra Revue Tour of 2005 they have included St Johns and Whitehorse to give Canadian audiences this unprecedented occurrence, rarely do artists of their stature take on a tour of this scope focusing on Canada alone.

Chris Cornell is a rock icon who thrives on contradictions. An innovator who resists genre labels, he was nonetheless the chief architect of the 90s grunge movement. Frequently ranked as one of the best voices in music history, he has successfully maintained his own unique identity over more than two decades as a multi-Grammy award-winning musician and universally acclaimed singer, songwriter and lyricist.

Cornell has helped refine rock with his various bands Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden and Audioslave have all enjoyed extraordinary success, all of which gave the talented musician a showcase for both his dark, edge side and his soulful yearnings. As a solo artist, Cornell has broken new creative and commercial ground; he was the first American male singer to write and perform the theme song for the James Bond franchise in its most successful film to date, Casino Royale. His blockbuster 2007 world tour brought together songs from every stage of his career, reinterpreting them for new audiences and blending the original fire with the shock of the new.

Outside music, Cornell fronted fashion designer John Varvatoss Spring 2006 collection and settled in Paris with his family, where he has helped revive a historic restaurant, the stylish Black Calavados.

Only the most confident would claim to predict exactly what comes next for Chris Cornell. Always eclectic, always experimental, his new collaboration with super-producer Timbaland who calls their album the best work Ive done in my career will take him into fresh territory, establishing a new sound and marking the creation of a masterpiece that breaks all musical boundaries. Only one things for sure Chris Cornell will continue to break rules, make history and challenge everyones expectations.

December is Legendary, Thanks to the Union!

Rise Against are hitting the road across Canada this fall with a headlining tour to coincide with the release of their new album, Appeal To Reason, to be released on October 7th. Joining them on this mission will be Thursday and Sage Francis.

Rise Against are vocalist Tim McIlrath, bassist Joe Principe, drummer Brandon Barnes and guitarist Zach Blair. In spring 2001, the band released their debut CD The Unraveling on Fat Wreck Chords. After two years of solid touring, Rise Against recorded Revolutions Per Minute (2002), followed by Siren Song Of The Counter Culture produced by Gggarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Melvins, Sick Of It All). The Sufferer & the Witness was released in 2006 and debuted at #10 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

For their fifth studio album, Appeal To Reason, Rise Against teamed up with Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendants) and Jason Livermore to record at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, CO, the same produc-tion team and studio used for ‘The Sufferer & the Witness’ and ‘Revolutions Per Minute.’ The music video for the hot new single ‘Re-Education (Through Labor)’ recently premiered on MTV Unleashed and Much Music, and the song itself will be part of the new ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ video game, available on Oct 26th, 2008.

Thursday, from New Brunswick New Jersey, have been evoking intense passions in people for years. The band began as a closely-knit group of friends who channeled those unbreakable bonds into not only an idea, but also an unparalleled sound that sets Thursday apart from all other bands.

Sage Francis is a renowned hip-hop artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. His intricate wordplay, understated confidence and passionate delivery has distinguished Francis as one of the most vital per-formers to emerge from the underground scene in years.

Nearly a decade after the release of their groundbreaking debut, The Sickness, Disturbed have become one of the most passionate and well-respected bands in the hard-rock universe, a dependable source not only of pummeling riffs and jackhammer beats, but of personal and political insights into our troubled times. Yet success (in the form of three platinum-plus albums, with both Believe and Ten Thousand Fists topping Billboard’s album chart and over nine million albums sold) hasnt dulled this Chicago-based four-some’s taste for adventure. If anything, Disturbed’s loyal fanbase has pushed the band to newer heights of self-expression. So it makes sense that on the occasion of their fourth album, Indestructible, that front-man David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren decided to take the reins and produce themselves in the studio.

‘Doing three records with Johnny K taught us a tremendous amount,’ Draiman says of the industry veteran who helmed The Sickness, Believe and Ten Thousand Fists. ‘We’re always trying to evolve and try new things and experiment,’ adds Donegan. So this time we wanted to do things a little bit differently.’ Wengren says that Indestructible which the band tracked over three months in Fall 2007 at Chicago’s Groovemaster Recordingafforded the band the ‘opportunity to prove to ourselves and to everybody else that we could do it.’ The result of Disturbed’s experimentation in the studio is the groups darkest, angriest outing yet. Inspired by two and a half years’ worth of challenging experiences, Draiman told the rest of the band that he was in the mood to purge. Fortunately, they were right there with him.

‘We wanted to get back to some of the elements that were maybe lacking on the last two records, says Donegan. Davids got a great ability to sing really melodically, but we wanted him to get back to the rhythmic, animalistic, rapid-fire delivery hes known for. Hes very hard to touch when he does that, and we wanted to give him music to provoke that.’

Lamb of God have consistently accompanied their persistent savagery with technical songwriting and jaw dropping musicianship. Their breakthrough disc, Sacrament was a combination of pummeling thrash, gripping hardcore and thrilling classic metal, the album is searing, bold and relentless, probing dark unexplored regions of aggression and emotional decay rivaled by none. By the end of 2006 the band had shattered every goal most metal bands can expect to attain. The band and the overwhelming grass roots following would no longer go unnoticed. Sacrament and Lamb of God were nominated for a Grammy in best category of best Metal Performance.

In January of 2007 the band appeared on the Late Show with Conan O’Brien. In the UK the band was honored with 5 nominations at the Golden Gods awards and the band went on to tour the world three times over the next 2 years, finishing off the touring cycle headlining arenas across the US in December of 2007. The band has most recently released a DVD Walk With Me In Hell, which gives fans an uncensored insight into life on the road with Lamb of God.

THE SWORD is a colossal, high-energy powerhouse. Utilizing a potent combination of intense songwriting chemistry, eye-opening creativity and talent and a distinctly unique vision, THE SWORD is, without question, one of heavy musics most electrifying new bands. Conceived in Austin, TX in 2003, THE SWORD took the form of a cohesive quartet in early 2004 when guitarist / singer J.D. Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie, and drummer Trivett Wingo joined forces. Inspired by such legendary names as SLEEP, SLAYER and THE MELVINS, the four-piece immediately began to construct the songs that would soon comprise their initial demo recording.
Lamb of God and The Sword are currently touring with Metallica across Canada and will be making a special one off stop in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, December 6, 2008.

Bad Religion is currently surging forward with a renewed creative intensity. Their fourteenth album, entitled New Maps of Hell (Epitaph), is both a nod to the bands defiant past and an undeniable step forward in the evolution of a genre they helped to define. While many of the new songs are as brutally fast and unflinchingly heartfelt as anything the band has done before, the record is also filled with unexpected sounds, inventive rhythms and lush pop choruses.

The band originally formed in Southern California in 1980 by Jay Bentley (bass), Greg Graffin (vocals), Brett Gurewitz (guitars) and Jay Ziskrout (drums).

They are often credited for leading the revival of punk rock during the late 1980s, as well as influencing a large number of other punk and rock musicians throughout their career. In the 28 years since its inception, Bad Religion has had numerous lineup changes, and Graffin has been the only constant member, however the band currently features three of the original four members.

Watching the band rip through a live set in front of a few thousand exhilarated fans illustrates, the sheer power of Bad Religion’s music is unquestionable. The kids are pressed against the barrier, many with eyes closed and fists raised, singing each lyric as if it means the world to them. The entire affair has an intensely inspirational and cathartic air, like some riotous punk rock baptism in the name of free thought and dissent.

The Exclaim! Aggressive Tendencies tour is back with one of its most innovative and progressive lineups to date. A cross Canada tour dedicated to celebrating hard, heavy and creative bands, this year features Relapse recording artists BARONESS and GENGHIS TRON along with newly signed Metal Blade recording artist BISON.

BARONESS

With a sound built upon a resolute sense of purpose and shaped by hundreds of explosive live shows, Georgias BARONESS position themselves at the forefront of heavy music with their debut full length and Relapse debut Red Album. Red Album is at once powerful, expressive, confident, and commanding. The band is a touring machine with almost 250 shows a year since the bands inception. Now they will be taking over clubs with their first headlining tour through Canada.

GENGHIS TRON

The enigmatic trio GENGHIS TRON weaves an ocean-sized orchestra from just a few instruments and machines. On GENGHIS TRONs vivid palette of sound and texture, giant riffs and frenetic beats make perfect sense next to haunting vocal melodies and moments of subtle beauty. The bands recent Relapse debut Board Up the House spills over with the extremes of modern music into an unforgettable album experience unlike any other.

BISON

One of the latest signings to Metal Blade records, BISON are born of the ashes of seminal Vancouver skate-thrash band S.T.R.E.E.T.S. Their riffs are colossal and flow like a mighty river into a sea of fuzzed out shredding. Their message is punk rock angst and revolution, with the occasional nod to white wizards, the king of swine and a mythical beast called the Stokasaurus. BISON is currently recording their Metal Blade debut Quiet Earth with Jesse Gander (3 Inches of Blood, Subhumans, Mass Grave, S.T.R.E.E.T.S.) at The Hive Studios in Burnaby, BC and are currently slated for a fall 2008 release.

“Are you restless like me?” From the song “Up The Cuts”

A decade ago, Tom Gabel began his music career as a 17-year old solo acoustic act known as Against Me!, belting out songs of rebellion in Laundromats and any other venue that would have him.

Flash forward to today, and Gabel’s agitation cycle is still cranked high, but not without a wild streak of optimism thrown in for good measure. For the past five years, the gravelly roar of the vocalist/guitar player has been part of a thunderous and thoughtful foursome featuring Andrew Seward (bass), Warren Oakes (drums) and James Bowman (guitar), still doing business under the Against Me! moniker. Churning out a distinctive blend of punk, rock, and even folk that is impossible to label, they have toured all 50 states and foreign lands from Iceland to Australia, forging an intense connection with their growing legions of fans.

After three successful full-length records on indie labels—Reinventing Axl Rose (No Idea, 2002); As the Eternal Cowboy (Fat Wreck Chords, 2003) and Searching For a Former Clarity (Fat Wreck Chords 2005), which reached #9 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart and featured the thumping “Don’t Lose Touch”—this Gainesville, Florida band is made its major-label debut that has got the attention of all music fans. Their album New Wave (Sire Records) is an amazing collection of songs that continues the bands pursuit of honest, powerful and smart songs.

Do not miss this great live band as they make their first headline tour in Western Canada in support of New Wave.

CALGARY – August 28th – Flames Central GET TICKETS HERE

Arguably the biggest DJ in the world, Tiesto returns to Calgary for an exclusive club performance at Flames Central, as part of his dedicated North American tour in support of his latest mix album, In Search of Sunrise 7 Asia.

In Search Of Sunrise 7 Asia is the latest volume in Tiesto’s successful, geographically-inspired compilations, was mixed and recorded in Thailand, and captures the peaceful and intensively passionate way of life together with the vigorous activity that Tiesto encountered during his tour through the region this spring. With past stops in Latin America, Los Angeles and last year’s Ibiza, Tiesto shows that Asia gave him the inspiration to deliver a brand new, double disc mix compilation, which beautifully expresses what he experienced on his journeys.

On In Search of Sunrise 7 Asia, Tiesto offers up a seamless trip through the latest and best trance, house and techno with an Asian flair, spread over two full length discs. ‘I wanted to mix the concept behind ISOS 7 over two separate sets in such a fashion that the listeners can get a proper impression of what it means to tour Asia’, he says. ‘Disc one will dwell on the easy going ambience and overwhelming beauty of the continent, whereas the second disc will focus on the incredible energy of the Asian people I felt during the live sets throughout the Asian tour’.

The dedicated North American 2008 In Search Of Sunrise Summer Tour will roll through 36 clubs through the United States and Canada. He will later on host an exclusive two month long residency at Club Privilege in Ibiza. Tiesto will be the resident every Monday, starting on the 7th of July until the closing party on the 22nd of September. Tiesto will deliver his four hour deejay sets in the style of his In Search Of Sunrise series, everything supported by a newly developed and custom made state of the art production.

Storming onto the scene in 2005 with their debut album Silent Alarm, Bloc Party spent 69 weeks on the UKs top album charts. The record which included the singles ‘Banquet’ and ‘Helicopter’ raced up the charts in 17 countries around the world, was declared Album of the Year by NME Magazine and went on to sell one million copies worldwide.

Returning with their follow up A Weekend in the City, singer Kele Okereke, guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong teamed up with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol) to create 11 electrifying and staggeringly direct tracks that chronicle post-millennial Britain.

Pitchforkmedia.com said, ’...within a minute the bands starting to kick up dust, on its way to be a chorus hook thats loose, energetic, and honestly thrilling: Its the kind of craftsmanship that would sound good coming from nearly anyone. Blender Magazine said, At Bloc Partys best, music and message collide with astounding force.

Prior to coming to Canada, Bloc Party will perform at some of the worlds biggest music festivals includ-ing Chicagos Lollapalooza, Germanys Hohenfelden Festival and the UKs Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Dont miss Bloc Party as they perform all your favorites along with new tracks of their upcoming album set for release in October 2008 on Warner Music.

The UNION presents RANCID!!

Monday May 12, 2008 09:06 AM

EDMONTON – September 8 – Shaw Conference Centre

CALGARY – September 9 – Round Up Centre

Tickets On Sale this Saturday May 17th at 10am! Right here at unionevents.com or ticketmaster.ca! Also available while supplies last at the following outlets

Edmonton – Freecloud, FS(wem), Blackbyrd, and Megatunes

Calgary – Megatunes and Sloth Records

One of the most popular and enduring American punk bands RANCID are making their long awaited return to Alberta. They will be touring across North America throughout the summer, prior to the release of their new album, their first one since 2003.

In the five years since the release of Indestructible, the members of Rancid have been anything but dormant. 2004 saw the release of guitarist Lars Frederiksens second solo album Viking, a scorching homage to Lars vida loca, equal parts violence and love. 2005 marked the release of Haunted Cities by singer Tim Armstrongs side project, the Transplants. Additionally, in 2007 Armstrong released a superb solo record, A Poets Life, which spawned the summertime hit single ‘Into Action’, heard on radio stations across the country and on dance floors around the world. Meanwhile, bassist Matt Freemans legendary skills were highlighted on both the Transplants record and tour, and also on worldwide tours playing with Social Distortion. Seemingly, the band has so much creative output, it cannot be contained in a single project.

Rancid formed from the ashes of the cult East Bay band, Operation Ivy, in the early 90s and in their 15+ years have sold millions of records. Their 1994 breakthrough hit record Lets Go and 1995 smash And Out Come the Wolves garnered gold and platinum records from around the world, produced multiple hit singles and ensured worldwide fame for the band. Still, Rancid remains true to their vision and their friends, working with Epitaph founder, president and producer Brett Gurewitz in and out of the studio for over a decade. The only line-up change aside from the addition of Lars Frederiksen in 1993 was when Brandon Steineckert took over drum duties from Brett Reed last year. They wear their loyalty like a proud emblem.

More Announcements from The Union!

Wednesday March 12, 2008 12:43 AM

CAKE formed in Sacramento, California in 1991. The band quickly became a hot item in the downtown club and cafe scene, then went on to gain a steady following in San Francisco’s Bay Area. Lead singer John McCrea’s unwitting amalgam of Jonathan Richman, David Byrne, and Woody Guthrie, backed by CAKE’s shambling countrified funk, took Northern California by storm.
To date, CAKE has toured extensively throughout the world including North and South America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.

Through their career CAKE have defied convention with an eclectic string of hits, from the tightly wrought lament “The Dis-tance”, the radio stand-out “Never There”, “Sheep Go to Heaven”, “No Phone”, “Short Skirt/Long Jacket”, and an unconventional remake of Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic “I Will Survive”.

After touring in support of their fifth album Pressure Chief, CAKE parted ways with Columbia Records and struck out on their own with Upbeat Records. The new labels first release, b-sides and rarities, garnered glowing reviews and an unlikely radio hit with their cover of the Black Sabbath classic War Pigs.

Over the last four years Emily Haines has captured audiences all over the world with her dynamic and energetic performance as front woman for Canadas own Metric. Her bands rise to fame through heavy touring has definitely propelled them to success, but on the side, matters in Emilys own life have encouraged her to find another outlet to release her creativity.

It took Emily four years to complete her new solo album entitled Knives Dont Have Your Back released on Last Gang Records. It was recorded in Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto and New York and is an intimate and subtle collection of mellow, piano-driven tunes complimented by soft string and horn arrangements. She has been plotting this for years, “When I was a little kid,” she said in a statement, “I would creep downstairs to the piano and write rudimentary songs about imaginary places. I’m told the first song I ever wrote was a love song to a cranberry tree. I always used the mute pedal. I hated the idea of anybody hearing me.

This is definitely a distinct contrast from Metrics bold, danceable sound but Emily is an artist that defies labeling. She is touring with the help of drummer Scott Minor from Sparklehorse and bassist Paul Dillon.

Do not miss this special evening when Emily Haines brings her beautifully crafted songs to an intimate setting.

30 SECONDS TO MARS & HATEBREED - PRESALES START WEDNESDAY!

Tuesday September 5, 2006 11:03 PM

The fall keeps getting wilder and louder! This weekend we’ve got TWO huge tours going on sale, and here’s your chance to beat the box office rush!

First up, we’ve got the return of 30 SECONDS TO MARS with guests KILL HANNAH – hitting EDMONTON, CALGARY, SASKATOON and WINNIPEG in early October. The last time these guys came through, they left a string of sold-out clubs in their wake, and they’re back on the crest of some massive hits – their latest single THE KILL is climbing the modern rock charts, while the video for the song snagged the coveted MTV2 Viewer’s Choice award at the 2006 MTV VMAs.

Next up, we’ve got the living legend of HATEBREED, with guests SWORN ENEMY and SCARS OF TOMORROW, ready to blast away EDMONTON, CALGARY, REGINA and WINNIPEG. It isn’t enough for these guys to rule an indie empire of labels, shops and other ventures, they also continue to put out the most essential and credible hardcore records around. Now they’ve got their latest album SUPREMECY out there, and since they spent the summer destroying arenas with System of a Down and OZZFEST, this New Haven, CT band is ready to bring it to your home town!

Click HERE for details on how you can get into the presales, and gain the right to brag to your friends that you got your tickets FIRST.

...Trail of Dead & The Blood Brothers ATTACK!

Thursday August 31, 2006 12:27 AM

If one was to make a list of the most explosive live bands currently touring the world, it would be topped by Austins and you will know us by the Trail of Dead, and Seattle’s The Blood Brothers. Their stories are similar: both bands had humble beginnings on indie labels, touring relentlessly since their births in the late 1990s. Both stormed onto the scene with show reports of smashed instruments, flailing bodies, swarming dance floors, and hundreds of new fans every day. Trail of Dead signed to influential indie label Merge for their groundbreaking release Madonna in 1999, followed by 2002’s Source Tags & Codes, for major imprint Interscope. Their forthcoming release, So Divided is already heralding rave reviews from Rolling Stone, who call it “a brave new direction”. When asked about the bands reputation for raucous live showsbroken bottles, trashed guitars and bloody faces frontman Conrad Keely demures. I started to get annoyed when it felt like a routine. Im not angry in the same way I was when I was young. Thatd be the kiss of death. Its like what Quincy Jones always said, You dont write for money. You write music that makes you shiver.

The Blood Brothers write music that makes you shiver. From their early releases on indie stalwart ThreeOneG, to their signing with V2 Records, The Blood Brothers have never failed to keep reinventing their sound, keeping it modern, thoughtful and progressive. For their latest release, Young Machetes, their enlisted the genius of Guy Picciotto (of Fugazi fame) and John Goodmanson (producer, Death Cab for Cutie, The Like, Sleater-Kinney) to bring forth their most ambitious, raucous and spastic release to date. Joining forces with Trail of Dead seems like a natural fit; audiences will be stunned, eardrums may ache, feet will shake and shimmy. This is not a tour to miss!

After their last album went indie triple platinum, these guys got offers from every major label in the business, but the chose to sign to Epitaph just to prove how punk rock they are. Ant’s got beats, Mr. Dibb’s got skills, Slug’s the nicest guy in the world and the ladies, they love him.”

-Vice Magazine

There are pages and pages that we could write about Epitaph/Rhymesayers Recording Artists Atmosphere. With a sound that helped to define Minnesota hip-hop and a career rounding the nine-year mark, Atmosphere have long been at the forefront of the independent hip-hop scene. RANCID IN CALGARY !!

The Union is proud to present

With special guests The Aquabats

October 1st & 2nd, 2006
Macewan Hall, Calgary AB

All Ages Doors for both shows at 6 pm
Tickets are $23.50 Advance, ONSALE Saturday July 29th at Ticketmaster.ca, Unionevents.com, Megatunes & Sloth

One of the cornerstone punk bands of the ‘90s, Rancid’s unabashedly classicist sound drew heavily from the Clash’s early records, echoing their left-leaning politics and fascination with ska, while adding a dash of essential hardcore crunch. Critics praise their political commitment, surging energy, and undeniable way with a hook and the band’s strengths have made them one of the most revered punk bands ever. Their third album, 1995’s …And Out Come the Wolves, made them a platinum-selling sensation and an inescapable presence on MTV and modern rock radio. While they never translated that success into an enormous blockbuster record, that wasn’t necessarily their ambition, choosing to stay with the independent punk label Epitaph and the creative freedom it allowed them. That decision helped them retain a large, devoted core audience as revivalist punk-pop began to slip off the mainstream’s musical radar.

Rancid was formed in 1991 by San Francisco Bay Area punk scenesters Tim Armstrong (guitar/vocals) and Matt Freeman (bass). Lifelong friends and longtime punk fans, the two had grown up together in the small, working-class town of Albany, near Berkeley; they’d also played together in the legendary ska-punk band Operation Ivy. Since then, they have made a mile-wide impact on the worldwide punk community, playing in all four corners of the globe, headlining tour after tour, including several years at the top of Warped Tour. With a new album in the works for early 2007, Rancid is showing no signs of slowing down. They keep rocking, they keep recording, and they keep laying the groundwork for the shape of punk to come.

M WARD - 2 INTIMATE SOLO SHOWS!

Monday June 26, 2006 1:26 PM

July 22nd – Calgary, AB – Ironwood Bar & Grill
July 24th – Winnipeg, MB – West End Cultural Centre

The hushed and weathered tones of M. Ward are easily one of the most intoxicating sounds on earth. Whether he’s creating his own songs, writing and producing for others, or playing with his superbly ramshackle backing band, Matt breathes irresistible life into everything he does. His renowned guitar playing is immediately striking but it’s also his songwriting for which he is universally loved and lauded. If it’s possible to be both eloquent and vague in the same sentence then Matt Ward knows how. If it’s possible to be both diffident and bold in delivery, then he knows that too. It’s the kind of writing, which begs repeated listens, all delivered in a voice oozing with warmth and gravelly charm.

M. Wards’ last album Transistor Radio was a homage to the long lost golden age of music radio, a time when DJ’s played 45s and the dust of the grooves could be heard crackling over the airwaves. Recorded in an attic in his adopted hometown of Portland over the past two years, Post War is its own special place and time, filled with enticing nooks and crannies. Post War is the fourth M. Ward album and his most absorbing to date. Its songs unravel their world wearied tales of life, love and human kindness with an innate and special grace, helped in part by the very talented friends who join him on this record, including Neko Case and Mike Mogis as well as old Monsters Of Folk touring buddy Jim James (of My Morning Jacket).

OUR LADY PEACE in FORT MAC & LETHBRIDGE!

Tuesday June 13, 2006 10:14 AM

The Union is proud to present Canadian rock icons
OUR LADY PEACE
With special guests STABILO

——While studying at the University of Toronto in 1992, vocalist Raine Maida met then-guitarist Mike Turner (a British expatriate) and the two formed the post-grunge band Our Lady Peace. They later recruited bassist Duncan Coutts and jazz drummer Jeremy Taggart, playing around the area. Signed to Relativity, Our Lady Peace released the massive Naveed, which sparked the modern rock hit “Starseed,” in 1995. They toured with fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette later that summer, and earned a cult following. Clumsy followed in 1997, and two years later Our Lady Peace returned with Happiness Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch. The new millennium brought another OLP release, 2001’s Spiritual Machines, and a sold out promo tour that spring. Shortly thereafter, guitarist Mike Turner left the band due to creative differences and Steve Mazur was brought in to replace him. He and the rest of Our Lady Peace restructured the band’s heavy rock sound for Gravity, which appeared in June 2002. The band toured throughout Canada and the U.S. in support of the album, and documented the jaunt the following June with Live from Calgary and Edmonton. In addition to the CD, OLP also issued a DVD of the tour. That same month, the band took part in the historic “Concert for Toronto,” held at the city’s Sky Dome as a way for the city, its citizens, and the nation of Canada to show Toronto’s vitality and to quell fears in the wake of the city’s bout with the SARS epidemic. Healthy in Paranoid Times, the band’s seventh album, was released in late August 2005. The album took an epic 1,165 days to record, a process which reportedly saw the band on the verge of breaking up, then stepping back to gain a fresh perspective before heading back to studio. What resulted was a driven, complicated effort that has earned them a fresh set of listeners, while pleasing the masses of fans that have followed their career for years.

Monday June 5, 2006 10:40 AM

Ministry and the Revolting Cocks have had something very important taken away from them, and they want your help in getting it back!

Toward the end of the Edmonton show on June 2, unidentified individuals managed to steal the Revolting Cocks banner that has hanging on one side of the Red’s stage. Descriptions of the thieves have been made as two young females. The value of the banner is set at $2500, and police will be investigating.

If you know the whereabouts of this valuable banner, or better yet, you are one of the individuals who took it, please contact The Union or Red’s as soon as possible to arrange its safe return to its rightful owners, no questions asked. City and Colour features the highly anticipated artistry of Alexisonfires Dallas Green. Dallas Greens full-length album entitled Sometimes, released under his solo moniker City and Colour, features Greens melodically driven musical lyricism on solo acoustic guitar. With a poignant vocal styling and lyrics that speak of impulse and introspection, Green affects his audience by offering his own personal testimony.

Last year, Green released a limited edition EP. Wildly circulated on the Internet, the release caused an overwhelming underground buzz. Critically acclaimed solo performances and a special appearance at Burton Cummings Songwriters Circle during the 2005 Junos, in Winnipeg, were cited as a highlight of the Junos weekend.

Taking it all in stride, Green remains sincere, and affable. Sometimes is a culmination of music that he has been writing on his own for over a decade. With Julius Butty at the helm, producer of Alexisonfire’s Gold album “Watch Out!, “Sometimes” dropped on November 1st , 2005.

ROB ZOMBIE!

Monday May 15, 2006 11:55 AM

The Union is very pleased to present ROB ZOMBIE and special guests ANTHRAX during the following stops on his EDUCATED HORSES tour:

JULY 30 – Prairieland Park (Hall D), Saskatoon SK – MORE INFO HERE

AUGUST 1 - Stampede Corral, Calgary AB – MORE INFO HERE

Tickets go on sale to the public FRIDAY MAY 19 at NOON, but starting TUESDAY MAY 16 at NOON until THURSDAY MAY 18 at MIDNIGHT – you can use the password “dragula” and beat the rush with the BUY TICKETS NOW links in the UPCOMING EVENTS listings!

An auteur filmmaker and music artist with shrewd insight and creative vision, ROB ZOMBIE has always challenged audiences as he stretches the boundries of film, publishing and music. After assaulting audiences worldwide with the high-octane road classic, The Devil’s Rejects the follow-up to Zombie’s critically acclaimed directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses – ZOMBIE returned to his first love with the March release of his latest album, EDUCATED HORSES. The instant success of the album’s first single, Foxy Foxy, has opened the door for the eagerly-awaited summer tour, which puts ZOMBIE amongst a lethal band of musicians, featuring guitarist John 5 (ex-Marilyn Manson), longtime bassist Blasko and drummer Tommy Clufetos (ex-Alice Cooper & Ted Nugent).

ZOMBIE has been the longest lasting active artist in Geffen Records’ stable fifteen years and has been the most prolific Geffen artist when it comes to Gold and Platinum albums, as all seven of his releases for the label have at least earned Gold status, while two 1995’s Astrocreep 2000 and 1998’s Hellbilly Deluxe hit triple Platinum.

Opening for ZOMBIE on this leg of the Educated Horses tour are special guests and fellow rock legends ANTHRAX. No strangers to radical and lasting success, ANTHRAX returned to the stage last fall with a vengence during Megadeth’s GIGANTOUR festival tour. During their twenty year career, the band has sold over 10 million albums worldwide.

Thursday February 23, 2006 4:30 PM

The Union is very pleased to present the singular MINISTRY and special guests REVOLTING COCKS on the western Canadian leg of the MasterBaTour 2006, coming this June.

Since Ministry staged the impressive and critically acclaimed – comeback known as House of the Mole in 2004, band founder Al Jourgensen has been re-energized with the fury of a storm, starting up the new indie label 13th Planet for releases by Ministry and other like-minded acts. Returning to the outlaw spirit of his seminal WaxTrax imprint, Jourgensen has found a new focus for his various projects, like Ministry and Revolting Cocks.

Now Jourgensen will return to the concert stage with his beloved creations, supporting forthcoming new albums Ministry’s Rio Grande Blood (May 2) and The Revolting Cocks’ Cocked & Loaded (March 7). With a band that features Paul Raven (Killing Joke) on bass, Tommy Victor (Prong) on guitar, Ministry’s razor-sharp rants on the ills of the world will no doubt be louder and harder than ever before!

BOB MOULD SUPPORT ANNOUNCED!

Friday February 17, 2006 4:31 PM

We’re very happy to announce the support acts for the upcoming BOB MOULD shows, each one of them an exceptional and innovative singer-songwriter in their own right.

WINNIPEG (March 2, The Venue @ Ramada Marloborough)
Keri McTighe of Nathan

CALGARY – March 3 at MacEwan Ballroom
Lorrie Matheson

EDMONTON – March 4 at the Starlite Room
Junior Bloomsday

Bob Mould is one of the most exceptional and original creatures in modern rock. As the voice of Husker Du and, later, Sugar, Mould mixed the politics of the social and personal variety in the most compelling fashion. His influence on modern music is almost unparalleled, except, maybe, by the Pixies.

But Mould has an extraordinary solo catalog of albums, like Workbook, Black Sheets of Rain and his latest, Body of Song. His excursions have absorbed the nuances of our times, dabbling with feedback, electronic beats, and the yearning for raw truth.

These will be one-of-a-kind opportunities to hear an extraordinary voice sing a great deal of extraordinary songs, chosen from throughout his career – Husker Du, Sugar, it’s all there. If you’re a fan of music, it’s essential that you be there.

Don’t miss your chance to see Bob Mould in this rare Canadian appearance! Get your tickets NOW – visit the listings in UPCOMING EVENTS and click the link to secure your place at the front of the stage!

“The architect of the sound and voice that launched a thousand moshpits”

-Pitchforkmedia.com

Bob Mould formed Husker Du in 1979 and while they stormed onto the scene along with other American post-punk bands of the era such as R.E.M & The Talking Heads, Mould’s intensely creative guitar work spelled out bigger things for the band. Their albums between 1981 and 1987 have proven remarkably influential, providing the sonic blueprint for the roaring punk-pop hybrid that crossed over into the mainstream in the early ‘90s. From Nirvana to The Pixies, nearly every major and minor band that appeared in the alternative underground in the late ‘80s and ‘90s owed a major debt to Mould, whether they knew it or not.

Mould would prove to be one of the most influential guitarists of the decade. With his slashing rhythms, distorted strumming, and blazing leads, he set the stage for the alternative guitar heroes of the late ‘80s and the ‘90s. Forming Sugar in 1992, Mould pushed ahead the pop side of his talents, and even further on his many solo releases. His most recent release, 2005’s Body of Song was met with great praise as he “returned” to rock music after a foray into electronic music on his record The Dog & Pony Show. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness a legend in action!

NEW YEAR'S EVE AT THE STARLITE ROOM!

Tuesday December 6, 2005 2:06 PM

The Union, alongside NRMLS WLCM and Esq.Jr are very pleased to present a special New Year’s Eve show at Edmonton’s Starlite Room.

On the live front there’s the dance rock phenomenon known as SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT, who have enjoyed a wicked 2005, rocking dancefloors from coast to coast as headliners on Exclaim! Magazine’s Four for Fall tour, not to mention opening in Vancouver for !!! (Chk Chk Chk) and touring with Chromeo.

Next up is DIETZCHE V. & THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN. These Pop Echo recording artists rarely play live, but their show is always an occasion to freak out. Rounding out the live bill is well-dressed quirksters LAZERSNAKE, who, in the short span of 8 months, have made a deep impact on the scene in Edmonton. Catchy synths plod over funky drums and comedic songs make Lazersnake a must-see band in the city.

We are also VERY excited to have on-board DJ Rueben Wu of acclaimed electro/dance group LADYTRON. Hailing from Liverpool via NYC, Ladytrons sound is dark, dense and dancey a sure-fire good time. Finally, DJ David Stone of CJSRs Saturday night mix show BPM will lay down the groove throughout the evening.

Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster, Blackbyrd, Listen and Megatunes. This is a no minors show, doors 8 pm.

This event has been months in the makingdo NOT miss it!

JAY AND SILENT BOB INVADE ALBERTA!

Tuesday November 22, 2005 12:29 AM

First it was An Evening With Kevin Smith – now it’s Jay and Silent Bob Invade Alberta! The iconic comic duo immortalized in films like Clerks and Dogma, portrayed by director Smith and actor Jason Mewes, are set to team up again during Smith’s upcoming spoken-word appearances in Calgary and Edmonton in February 2006.

Since the characters first appeared in Smith’s feature debut Clerks in 1994, they’ve stolen scenes in every Smith feature since, eventually landing a starring role in the 2001 hit movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Mewes plays Jay as a foul-mouthed crack-pot philosopher, while Smith’s Silent Bob is a laconic accomplice who says everything in action. Which isn’t saying much at all. And like the great comedic duos through history, Mewes and Smith share a particular chemistry that sparks laughter at any given opportunity.

Born and bred in New Jersey, the spiritual home for all of Smith’s film work, Mewes met the aspiring filmmaker as a youth, and quickly shot to fame as Jay, the philisophical dealer in Clerks. Aside from Smith films, Mewes has also appeared in the features Pauly Shore is Dead and My Big Fat Independent Movie. He has appeared on film alongside talents such as Carrie Fisher, Wil Ferrell, Jason Lee and Ben Affleck.

Kevin Smith is a noted filmmaker, author, comic and self-professed “king of geeks.” His passion for film, comics and collectables has spawned an industry that has generated cartoons, books, box-office hit movies and several lines of toys. His website ViewAskew.com enjoys thousands of hits per day by fans eager to read his frequent blogs about pop culture and current work. Beyond film, Smith has been active in the world of comics, writing storylines for the Superman and Green Lantern series, with a forthcoming film adaptation of The Green Hornet due for release in 2006. He is currently at work on The Passion of The Clerks, a sequel (of sorts) to his debut feature.

Smith’s live appearances have drawn thousands to theatres across North America to hear his rants and raves about popular culture, the world of movies and anything else that crosses his caustic wit. The shows have spawned two successful DVDs.

An Evening with Kevin Smith, with special guest Jason Mewes, brings the laughs to Alberta on the following dates:

CALGARY – February 5, 2006
Epcor Centre’s Jack Singer Concert Hall
Tickets available at UnionEvents.com, Ticketmaster.ca or charge-by-phone 403-777-0000

JULIETTE AND THE LICKS!
Juliette Lewis is best known as a movie star, with stunning roles in movies like Natural Born Killers and Cape Fear, but her latest turn fronting a rock ‘n’ roll band isn’t an act. Channelling the raw fury of classic punk bands like The Stooges, Juliette and the Licks are a heart-racing sight to behold, with vicious riffs and Lewis throwing her kinetic persona stright into the storm. Their latest album, You’re Speaking My Language, is winning acolades for its uncompromising sound.

WINNIPEG: The Pyramid Cabart, November 9
SASKATOON: Louis Pub, November 10
EDMONTON: The Starlite Room, November 11
CALGARY: The Warehouse, November 12

And don’t worry if you’ve already bought a ticket – they’re valid and they will be honoured at the door!
