Tickets will be $35.00 and $45.00 (plus applicable service charges) and go on sale MONDAY JULY 25 at 10 AM at UnionEvents.com, PrimeBoxOffice.com, Prime Box Office Ticket Kiosk (2nd floor, MacEwan Hall, U of C), Passione, The Gallery, Sol Optix, all Underground clothing locations (Market Mall, Crossiron Mills, Chinook Centre, Sunridge Mall).
Raised by his mother in Fayetteville, North Carolina, J.COLE (born Jermaine Cole) took up rapping at the age of 12, inspired by the storytelling skill of hip hop luminaries such as Tupac Shakyr, Nas and Jay Z. Within a few short years, Cole was writing and producing his own tracks, honing his sound. Attending St. John’s University put Cole in the heart of the music industry – New York City – and once he graduated Magna Cum Laude, he wasted no time putting his first mix tape on the streets. Entitled The Come Up, it was a collection of dusty, soul-filled beds, raw drums and an endless range of lyrical topics. In 2009, after releasing a second tape, The Warm Up, Cole was breaking through – appearing on Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint 3, Wale’s debut album Attention Deficit, and tracks with Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Hi-Tek and B.o.B. In August 2010, Cole was the first artist to sign with Jay Z’s new RocNation label.
In 2011, J.COLE served as opening act on Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ tour, supported Drake in the UK, and put the finishing touches on his forthcoming RocNation album, Cole World (due September 27), which has been preceded by the new single and video, “Workout.” In April, Cole was listed at number 5 on their list of Greatest Rappers Alive 30 Under 30, and nominated for Best New Artist at the 2011 BET Awards.
With such a diverse display, J.COLE is poised to wake up a dormant industry and cement his name in this game. But more than that, with the album Cole World impending, he hopes to change the tide of current rap music, swaying it in a more insightful, meaningful and passionate direction.
